If you are interested in more information on meteorites and craters here is a "popular science" type website associated with Meteor Crater, Arizona, a privately owned and developed site:

Barringer Meteorite Crater
Meteorite Information

As you can see this one was huge! But the link does have some interesting information on the craters various types of meteors produce.

Following on from the Sarum stuff above - what do people make of Figsbury Rings, a few miles to the east of Old Sarum? A bit like a henge, a bit like a hillfort. Funny old place - look at the aerial photos (and if you visit in a car mind your undercarriage on the track up to the car park!).

Yet another Wiltshire site. they're all over. Looks much th same as any other henge.Trouble with wilshire is it features in all phases of history and pre history. This site could be ancient, appropriated by Romans and more likely Danes king Alfred fought a few battles in the area. another site that I do know of is 'Danesborough' top of Aspley Heath near Bow Brickhill Bucks. it shows on OS maps, but if you go there there is not much to see. Could be an ancient site used by the danes for fortification. Roy

Just a general enquiry. every time I use the Portal links to Flashearth or google maps my computer locks up. is it because I have only Windows 98? Don't have a problem with Multimap. Roy

What's your connection? We have dial-up and I have to use a public computer to use Flash Earth or Google maps. Its an electron pile-up.

I'm still stuck with Win98, but Flash Earth works OK for me. I'm using the Mozilla Firefox internet browser, rather than Internet Explorer, but I don't think that would make a difference.

On the earlier topic - Figsbury Rings is often presented as a hillfort (!) even though its looks rather henge-ish. Even the official signboard at the site describes it as a hillfort, going on about a sword found there.

Jim Champion,
Next time I go to France, I will stop off at this place and report what I detect, in my own strange way.
Every , and I mean every so called roman fort I have visited, has dowsed as a henge ( You can hardly blame them for occupying them?, brilliant to defend? )
The internal ditch , imo, will have been to direct any lower flow of plasma to a certain spot, it will then have been covered with insulating materials to ensure that it all went into the earth .
The henges that have this arrangement , imo, will have had occupation inside of them, the ones that dont , will have had no occupation in them, but plenty around them.
All of this strange ideas are simply my opinion, from what I detect, if I had to re-construct an area at such a spot, I would do exactly the same , this would help all my flock and crops, to grow and prosper.
Most of them are still working to one degree or other, though sadly the earthing points have been mainly destroyed ( barrows )
Some dowsers talk of black lines causing cancers?
Kevin

[/quote]I have dial-up, to far in the bush for broadband. I think the problem may be with the portal. it's taken me 2 days to download the reply pages. Roy
