Just another snippet of information from my history book." King alfred sent messengers to the men of Wessex to meet him in arms at Egbert's Stone on the east of Selwood forest. The battle Ethandune, probably Eddington near Westbury followed..... I have never heard of Selwood forest, can't find it on any map. Also unaware of any forest in the general area. Was Egbert's stone perhaps an ancient one used as a meeting place? Roy

| Thanks Kelpie. I read the paragraph and decided to ask. Didn't think to look on the portal first. Roy
