Have just been looking at English Heritages' Festival of History event.
There does'nt appear to be anything older than the Roman period.
I know there's various Iron age groups around and people who flintnap.
Curious to know why prehistory does'nt seem to figure.

Perhaps they don't know enough about! but seriously could it be that war interaction makes more interesting viewing for the spectator, so Vikings, knights and romans have more moneydrawing power. The reconstruction prehistoric sites are a bit out on the limb in Wales and Norfolk as well, have'nt been to Butser farm for years but I suppose thats ticking over and theres the Peat Centre reconstruction outside Glastonbury...

Wideford,
I feel you have hit the nail right on the head.
Prehistory and the ancient sites have no meaning or percievable reason. So apart from a minority who seek to preserve them, and fringe groups who use them for differing religious uses, the ancent sites are at best ignored, and at constant threat from the bulldozers.
I believe that the sites are far more important than the vast majority of people realise, and fear that unless this importance is not made fully clear and explainable, that many sites will disappear and the remaining ones will become as stone henge a dysney type money making attraction.
They are our heritage , and I believe have been instrumental in the rapid progress of mankind, unless we re-learn their secrets again fast, it may be too late.
