Blingo - I don't think that DPI tip applies across the board - what paint package have you found that with?

Yes certainly sharpening should always be done to a minimum.

And keeping a high res low compression JPG will do if you don't have the space for TIFFs, as long as each image is around 1 or 2MB.

You never know when someone might see your image on the Portal and want to buy a high-res reproduction from you.

to keep image sharp increase 'dpi' when you size down.

That is only half the truth. DPI is only necessary for printing.
  • large DPI - small and sharp picture
  • small DPI - large and blurred picture
An example: Printout size of a picture with 750x500 pixels (Megalithic Portals standard)
  • 300 DPI - 2.5"x1.67"
  • 72 DPI - 10.42"x6.94"
Both prints have got the same amount of information (750x500) but the 300 DPI picture looks sharper (cos it's smaller).

No program showing pictures at a display interprets the DPI number (750x500 will be displayed as 750x500). But many programs confuse users with these declarations.
