Apologies for the Portal having been down |

My apologies for the Portal having been off all last night and daytime today. NTL was doing some maintenance last night and the router here didn't re-start automatically after that.
I didn't notice until after I'd gone to work so having got home have now restarted things. Yes some people seem to be suprised that I work full time doing something else other than this!
Contributions for the ongoing costs of running the site, which is currently running at about £70 a month are very welcome.
A contributory membership is the best way as you get some good freebies, see the link top-right.
Cheers,
Andy

no big deal.I don't know how you do it, taking care of this site after a full day of work...
Either you work for the government or you don't have a social life... or both....

Had me worried when it wouldn't load.
It is easy to forget the hard work that needs to be put into sites like this.
So , a big thank you , from me to those that have have created and maintain this site, it is truly appreciated, and a wonderfull resource.

I thought it was just me but it seems the www2 links no longer work. Posted St.Nicholas Church developments as anonymous then logged in using non-www2 which worked fine. Added one picture, went to add another and it said "media exists" - checked size and dimensions were fine and still didn't work, says exactly same thing if I try other images. Just me ?

You shouldn't be using www2...
Which photo gave that problem?
Sometimes the New Photos will come back with a blank screen, I'm not sure why. See if it happens in a different web browser.

Ah, so non logged in users can't see one of the most important pages on the site. A strange way to attract visitors indeed!

It is a technical problem, of course we don't want to exclude anybody.

This really should be fixed. How can I browse through the latest photos from the last day or so? This used to be one of the main attractions of this site.

Yes - it should be fixed as it is a main feature and a very important one. Having said that - we should encourage every visitor to log in and get rid of these frustrating anonymous comments. I never know WHO I am arguing with or insulting!

When I am not logged in I get a blank white page on the latest images pages. Is this just me? Shame if the best feature of the site can only be seen by 3% of users!

... and another thing I've just noticed. I can't start a new thread on the forum logged in or not. Can someone please call the software doctor? This site seems to be cracking up!

Two problems that are not new. I don't have a fix for the 'latest photos' thing. It only hits me very occasionally and I can't see anything wrong in the way the page is generated. I don't think it hits many users. You always get it when you log out? I don't. On all browsers? It happened to me once or twice then stopped again and I can't now replicate it.
The seond problem (at least what I have seen) is simply that the 'New' icon has been pushed too far off the page to the right-hand side. It only happens on some fora. This happens where we have a lot of forum moderators listed (correct me if I'm wrong) and this seems to push the 'new' icon too far over. True that needs fixing but it's hardly the fall of the Roman Empire.
As an IT person you must know the importance of being very specific in your problem reports, sweeping statements like that are just tedious.
We do not have a software doctor, we have an amatur programmer (myself) who spends most of his time seeing to the more humdrum day to day workings of the site, and who rarely has the mental energy left after the day job, kids are in bed and e-mails all anwered to get into late night coding sessions.
Not to mention making sure the server is kept maintained, and that critical things like regular backups and so on are done (which they are).
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be negative, that's just the way it is, we do not have a 'sugar daddy' who funds this site from other more profitable activities.
Cheers.
