Please read the following article and say whether or not something drastic has to be done: Guardian Article.
What has happened in the U.S. cannot (MUST NOT) be allowed to happen in Britain.

"The award-winning geneticist and author Steve Jones will deliver the lecture and challenge creationists, Christian and Islamic, to argue their case rationally at the society's event in April.

Bit of a contradiction in terms there. He's going to be disappointed.

Yes, there's every reason to be concerned and to do something - there are great dangers in a large chunk of society slipping back a number of centuries in terms of it's attitudes towards science and rationality.

The trouble is, what's to be done? If Creationism is welded to religion then people can claim the right to teach their children about it and anyone who says it's tripe is said to be attacking religion.

All I can think of is to emphasise science as much as possible in schools and not give even a nodding reference to the other stuff. If people want to tell their kids nonsense out of school hours, so be it, but this is one thing I personally see no reason for society to meet halfway or give the least official time to.

Thanks, Partlow. Yes it does make grim reading and a return to ignorance. How long before we hear of death threats to evolutionists?

You're not kidding! Considering the 'Religious' beliefs and practices of the Royal Society, it's laughable.
