This is not xenophobia - I read just about all your news items - however every so often I like to confine my browsing to UK news even at the risk of being bored to tears with more homespun wisdom on the populist icon Stonehenge - but recently I hit the appropriate button 'Switch to UK News' and still seem to receive more non-UK news than UK news - just now you are posting 19 items in total with the majority (11) on non-UK topics - what do others think?

All I get when hitting the button for UK only are ten news items,
Victory for King Arthur(SH Drove Road)
This is the location of 'Target Y' Uragh
This is the location of 'Target X'
Book Review Singing up the Country
The Tisbury Hoard on show at Salisbury Museum
Whitehorse Hill Cist
Craw Stane
Magdalen Hill Down
Jarlshof
Ness of Brodgar
Target Y is in the Republic of Ireland but it was part and parcel of the recent competition so should be included in the news.
The book review is there because they are all featured on the News page when they are first written.
Everything else listed is in the UK.
I'm interested to see what list of news items you have that are different to the ones I've just listed above, I don't get an option to view 19.

Angel Mounds in Indiana; Vrysinas; Cocev Kamen; Kabah; Nazca Lines Stonehenge Drovers and all those you mention - except for Book Review; Tisbury (that's in my neck of the Woods); Craw Stane; Whitehorse; Jarlshof; Ness of Brodgar; and that was one minute ago - I kid you not

Hi 4C7, please can you check the URLs of the pages you are looking at?
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/ is the UK and international front page
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/index.php?tab=front&uk=1 is the UK only front page.

I think you may have found a glitch...
http://www.megalithic.co.uk./index.php?tab=news is the international one and if you then click the link for the UK only, you get
http://www.megalithic.co.uk./index.php?tab=news&uk=1
but it seems to be the same page as the international one.
I'll ask our more technical admins to have a look at that and report back.

After reading this thread I had to agree with 4clydesdale7 as I was getting the same problem.
Anyway, I've just tried again and whatever you've done has now fixed this, so I can see just UK news.
(It's just a matter of *having* the choice, not necessarily to use it every day.)
Thanks Andy.

Hello, I've not changed anything.
The main problem with the UK news mode is that it doesn't show items that have no country set, which is a lot of the articles, reviews and competitions, and there's no way round that.
4clydesdale7 yes any checking is helpful. Also adding sites from sources we may not know about (as you already do, thanks) I agree a lot of the Stonehenge news is guff so we avoid much of it.
Cheers

I am beginning to feel like a 'Jonah' - I have just tried again and the problem is still there - Like Angie I would enjoy the choice and I am sure that our equals elsewhere would like to have that choice for their own Country -
If the News items are arriving on site in an automated fashion (some sort of regular newsfeed) then as Andy says there is unlikely to be a method that can be adopted - but if Andy's great team of helpers are gathering the news then they should be able to maintain control of where they put the item on the site - or Andy (because I was around when the abacus was invented) am I being naive to the extreme
On the Map references etc Andy, with the nights drawing in, I have fewer opportunities to get out in the field but I want to continue my support for your site by making the occasional helpful contribution - if you can let me know an easy method of downloading all the Glos sites you are aware of together with the map references that you have recorded then I will check them - once I have checked Glos I shall be more than happy to set about another County
Just as a tempter I have a few more new sites up my sleeve!! I rather fancy the Kite camera but they seem rather expensive - and I can't find a kite big enough to take my weight!!!!

I may have found where the perceived 'glitch' may lie - I get different pages depending on whether I use Megalithic (Classic) or Megalithic (New) - try (in order to replicate what I am doing) changing 'Theme' on your own (subscriber's) page

Hello, the only difference between Megalithic (Classic) and Megalithic (New) is that the first one has the link underlining turned on so the links are a bit easier to read.
I can't see a way round the 'cataloguing' problem. 'UK only' just shows items tagged with a UK country. If I made it 'show items from the UK plus anything that doesn't have a country' that doesn't seem right either. You would then get news that doesn't apply to any country in particular in with 'UK news'
Currently the only way to get to the 'UK only' news is from the link at the top of the front page, so if you're clicking on 'News' from any other link you will get the international one. I should add the 'UK only' as a link in the menus.

Just had a quick read of the last few comments and tried clicking on the UK News and it won't go there now.
However, if I click on Categories/News, I get the page [I think] I was looking at when I wrote my first comment above.
I wonder why it worked so easily that night?

Angie, can you copy and paste the UK News link that doesn't work - I'm not aware I've changed anything
Thanks

That is really odd Andy! It is working again now.
I wonder if it's anything to do with the *time* I've tried to access it?
Imagine it was much later than this the other night, when I left the last comment.

Early on in my thoughts I considered whether 'timing' might be a problem - I was dismissive at first because the problems did not seem to be consistent or have a pattern in which 'time based' problems would regularly occur - having dwelt on the point there may (I emphasise - 'may') be a factor - is it happening when new photos/site pages are being put together - or more simply - when the site is being worked on? Bring back the abacus!

Our server is not overstretched so there shouldn't be problems generating pages even when we're busy. The only sort of time related problems I can think of would be general connection problems between your ISP and ours, which do happen occasionally.
