How many posters are there on here with a distinct lack of any supernatural abilities..who can't dowse, remove or reduce harmful ley-lines,travel through time, have amazing scientific breakthrough news(always pending),glow with mysterious energies or levitate from standing stone to standing stone...am I the only one?

"travel through time"

I think we're all guilty of that Albert! Well, so it seems anyway.

I should have specified.."travel through time in ways beyond the conventional sense..eg to the far flung future, the distant past and return in time for tea and a quick post on these boards to boast about it(without a shred of verification....apart from,"something big is coming soon!")"

Hi Albert

Though I can dowse, I consider myself to be very ordinary indeed. But when I ever get the opportunity to show people my albums of photos, which (besides scenic places and grandchildren) include many pics of stone circles, etc., their eyes tend to glaze over, and they look at each other as if I'm not all there!
I'm assuming you're 'into' megaliths, or you wouldn't be on here in the first place?

I'm quite happy to be 'eccentric'.

I seem to be considered eccentric on here...being,as I am,more into history than mystery...
..thats why I post pics on the "general" page.

So you're saying you don't belong on the mysteries forum?

So you're saying you don't belong on the mysteries forum?

Now, now, that's not very nice is it?

Albert likes history and history's a mystery.

Also, to wonder if he doesn't belong here requires a very narrow interpretation of the word "forum". So narrow, it might be likened to a particularly exclusive masonic lodge - and no-one would want that, would they?

BTW Albert, when it comes to dowsing and time travel and levitation you can put me down as talentless and unspecial.

(And before anyone says I should try it with an open mind as everyone can do it - I have and they evidently can't).

I, too, lack supernatural abilities.

There are plenty of mysteries to go around that do not involve "special abilities". Like
- how and when were the Americas peopled?
- what were the root causes of various migrations of ancient societies than are indicated by the archaeological record?
- what are the meanings of various rock art?

It's just that this section of the Forum seems to focus on substantially more "mysterious" mysteries than I originally imagined.

Read my post a tad more carefully...It says .."I am MORE into history than mystery"...doesn't mention not being curious about mysteries does it??...If people can dowse with the great success they claim...there is no mystery in that for them and as such should be looking at their own contributions on this section instead.
Funny though,I asked for people who can't dowse(or perform any of the other tasks listed...admittedly some tongue in cheek) to say so,which makes me wonder...why are dowsers posting to tell me they can dowse???

No harm done...I'm prone to the odd bit of semantic tongue in cheek nit-picking myself(it airs that imp of the perverse lurking within us all)

I agree with bat400 on the mystery bit.

And one needs to remember that "sacred" is only in the mind of the believer, it's not intrinsic to the site itself.

Perhaps then this description of what the forum is actually for is what's giving the 'wrong' impression that posts about the subjects as described are welcome here.

Sacred Sites and Megalithic Mysteries
If you dowse, hug the stones, do ritual, or have theories involving earth energies or anything other 'alternative' ideas relating to ancient sites then this is the place.

Perhaps there needs to be a new forum name and description so that everyone is clear exactly what it's for. As it stands, it's becoming very entrenched in constant circular arguments. No letter here represents a particular poster, it's just an invented example of the stylised type of comments that appear time after time here and several other forums where the D word is dared to be mentioned.

A posts about dowsing results at a site.
B posts about unsubstantiated claims
C posts a comment which is neither relevant or amusing
D posts a youtube link
E posts a sarcastic comment about one of B's points
C posts another off topic comment
E posts a sarcastic comment about C
F posts about different dowsing results at the same place
B posts asking for proof
E posts something else sarcastic directed at someone else
C posts something nobody understands
E posts more sarcasm directed at C
G posts about supernatural abilities
C posts and flounces off
H posts asking for calm and reason and is challenged by everyone
A and F post to say their abilities are perfectly natural
B posts asking for proof
D posts a youtube link
I posts a link to debunkersaregodplc
J posts a new perspective
D posts three youtube links
B and G post agreeing with I.
A posts about dowsing results at another site.
B posts about unsubstantiated claims
D posts a youtube link
E posts a sarcastic comment about one of B's points
E posts a sarcastic comment about G
F posts about different dowsing results at the same place

So, what does everybody want this forum to be? Do we need a change of definition?
Some threads where the more mysterious side can be discussed without constant challenge?
Threads where the archaeological point of view can be discussed without the alternative perspectives?

What would everyone like to see discussed on this forum?

Rune

Well Rune why didn't you start a new topic suggesting that...also a section where ideas aren't challenged doesn't make a discussion does it?Start a mutual appreciation topic.
BTW...Using a quote as an excuse to derail a topic,is one of the "examples" you seem to have missed off your list.

"Some threads where the more mysterious side can be discussed without constant challenge?"

Well, I presume that's the crux of your posting. Banish the unbelievers.

I hardly think it's a matter that the forum membership can decide upon.

If there's any move to shed the forum of half (or more?) of it's membership I suggest Andy B should make the decision.

Don't you think there is? Hasn't just one of the many 2012 theories caught your imagination yet Albert?

Worried about 2012?Sorry..nope...a bit like the "millennium bug"...oh how the world was going to end...when it didn't it was because 2000 wasn't the true beginning of the fatal time...but 2001....well that too came and went without trumpet blare.
I could list all of the so-called scares that were going to wipe out humankind...but I think another topic would be called for

I didn't ask if you were worried Albert.

You're scared of dying aren't you? Now that's a topic worth chatting about.
