Thanks Peter - unfortunately I'm not driving, and needed back the next day for work in Chester. Colchester is on my wish list (as are many places) - but one day. If my colleagues wish to stop, then Ambresbury Banks looks like the best stop on.
We're setting off in the early hours, a days work, then back... about 3.25 hours each way, all being well.
Thanks
Tim

Colchester is the only "must see". Complete temple beneath the castle, brilliant museum, Roman wall largely complete and with fantastic gateway - see my pix in Roman gallery. Fair distance from Billericay though - suggest you stop over if you can. Excellent camp site at Roman Way, Colchester

I have a day's work coming up in Billericay - there and back in one day.... shish kebabs - a long way.
In the unlikely event I have some spare time, is there anything immediately near Billericay, or in it, of historical interest? Megalithic or Roman preferred, but anything would be considered.
thanks
Tim
