It is evident that there's no "genetically pure" population as figures boasted by THorgrim (i.e.: number of ancestors by generation) shows that is almost matematecally impossible...
How ever one must not forget that a single couple might have several children who may establish their own descendence therefore I wander if such calculation is applicable in a linear way...

Correct and the ancestor worshipping gene trail is full of pit holes for anyone trying to prove descent from any one group of ancient people. Just consider how many ancestors you have in each generation - 2 then 4, then 8,16,32,64,128 --- go back to 1066 and you have thousands Go back to the Megalithic and you have millions and that's impossible! Mathematically you will compute more ancestors in a single generation than there were people alive. The answer to that riddle is that communities were inbred and cousins "married" cousins etc. The truth is that we are all related to each other and so all have megalithic ancestors.

It's highly unlikely that anyone living in this country and not having at least one genetically british parent does not carry genes descendent from megalithic british man.
Continued localisation of genes though is also likely to some small degree. (caveat to follow)
For example; Some current Wiltshire dwellers will in all probability carry some genetic material desendant from megalithic Wiltshire man.
There is also of course a small possibility that for example; Some current Avebury area dwellers will carry genetic material descentant from the builders of that area's ancient monuments.
Caveat:
Unfortunately there is very little evidence to suggest that a current Wiltshire dweller will, on average retain any genes descendent from megalithic Wiltshire man to any greater degree than a current inhabitant of say; Birmingham, London or Manchester.
Recent studies do seem to have shown that although genetic variations having stronger prevelances towards for example Celtic and Norse genetic links in some area's of britain do exist; those genetic prevelances are not as strong as had been previously assumed by some and, not entirely accurately, actively promoted by others.
The genetic trail is too diverse and convoluted to allow us to claim otherwise.
I think it's fair to say that any modern day person having at least one genetically british parent will carry genetic material of megalithic, Celtic, Roman, Norse, Saxon, and Norman origin as well as material from much of Europe and the Mediteranean.
We're an extremely genetically diverse group of people.

We are all their descendants - everyone of us whose ancestors have been born in Britain over the last few thousand years. Famous example is of the dna test done on a Palaeolithic skeleton from a cave in Cheddar Gorge. They then did a dna survey at the local school and found that one teacher and several pupils were direct linear descendants of the skeleton in the cave. The megalith builders didn't go away or die out, their children are still here - they are us.

Hello,
When I admire the megaliths, I sometimes wander if these peoples had left any descendence in the places were they dwelt and if it possible to "identify" them nowadays...I read so many contradictory theories about their possible identity and origins who is the most credible, therefore I'd like to know if, at least for the western Europe Megalithic culture, is there a "general concensus" or "most accepted theory" about these peoples and if yes, were could one trace their descendence?
