Hi, I have had some magical experiences at Castlerigg coming from London to visit, spent 3 solstices there and 2 at Stonehenge. Castlerigg obviously attracted far less attention than Stonehenge and for me was a much more intimate experience, you can stay on a campsite near by and walk through the fields to the site and that in itself becomes part of the ritual, gathering flowers along the way in the moonlight, falling over in the dark!
The people are friendly, its the perfect place to spend your Solstice, it is however generally bloody cold and I recommend being prepared.

Hi Baz! I'm going to Stonehenge in September; I've booked a private access visit and I CAN'T WAIT!!! It sounds pretty good if there'll be a few people at Castlerigg. Usually there's no-one else around and it's a great experience with like-minded folks.

Yes, as David says, access to Castlerigg is easy (by car). It`s well sign-posted on the nearby roads and there`s a lay-by by the gate to the field. A crowd usually gathers there for the solstice.
I hope to be at Stonehenge, but it`s going to be chaos there.

From what I can remember, you just park by the roadside, go thru the gate into the field and you're there! Castlerigg certainly is in stunning surroundings. (Hope the weather's good for you!).
Myself, I'm hoping to go see if a certain capstone in south Wales really does rotate three times at midsummer!

Is anyone planning to visit a site for the solstice? I'm thinking of going to Castlerigg near Keswick, but I've not been before and would appreciate any info on ease of access etc.Thanks!
