I went to the premiere of Grants film Ancient Skies this week which shown in a 360 sky dome, hence using ultra fish-eye lenses.
Wow! What a show!

I agree that the best kit doesn't necessarily deliver the best results-it's about the one behind the lens Pete-not been out with mine for years now so it's a waste and a shame as it just sits in it's rucksack with the D200,i just take them out of the bag to keep the batteries charged etc.Unable to get out anywhere you see. Hence, using the Wacom more now.
I have a 10.5mm Nikkor lens I have hardly used but they can be useful in tight spaces.

I'm not a fan of the fish-eye lens effect.

I used the f series up to the F4. Nice rugged
camera but loads of shutter probs.

It's all horses for courses. Just by having the best camera you can get your hands on doesn't mean you will get the best photos.
Waiting around for hours on end with a naff camera and finally getting the shot you want will do,
Pete

The last Pentax I owned was the ME Super-I then went into Nikon with the F series, eventually with an F3 T.
The F series were/are great cams.

I have a Meade 8 inch reflector OTA, useless really until I get hold of an astro tripod with autostar or equiv.with equatorial mount.Attach my washing machine to it-(Nikon are a great pedigree and first formed in 1917 as an optical manufacturer-unsure about how early they manuf.washers).
The old D300 with a 500mm I have will suffice for the time being-I try not to jump on the m.pixel bandwagon as it's mostly a marketing ploy after 10-16 mp's.There is decent resizing software out there if you need a print at 6 feet or so!?Upgrade if you need video format then fair enough.
Decent star trail shots are good at an hourish exposure plus-mind you you should take a spare battery or two, lol.

Below is an innovative set up.

I thought the focal plane for film and digital SLRs was different. You're saying that with the correct fitting I could plug it into my Canon DSLR?

I've just had a look at this forum - sounds good, I'll have to give it a go, as far as I remember I've got a few adapters with the lens but I doubt if any are an M42, which appears to be the thing I need.

not at all David, with a mount your lens on a digital camera body would increase its focal length dramatically!
