Thanks again for fixing that Facebook-button problem, Andy! Good job! The mouse-over 'balloon' at the 'Bookmarks' bar says it all, quite clearly.
I don't envy you, faced as you are by 550 glowering electronic-mail messages. Remember, it's never too late to run away!
Your assessment of 'social networking' Web sites coincides entirely with my own. Countless message boards have been abandoned, due to the Facebook Sirens' call. People old and young flock there, like gulls to a seaside garbage dump. If I had $1.00US for every post at that site which is more than two sentences in length, I'd be in the poorhouse (were it not for Uncle Sam's dole).

Thanks...I think because they are obsessed with over designing to the latest fad, over complicating and over formatting things.
Good news: I got it to work in about 15 minutes
Bad news: It really messed with my carefully formatted right hand side bar and following 2 hours of web searching and CSS style hacking I haven't been able to prevent it making a mess of the pages. So unfortunately I'm out of time and have to remove it. It's really only a displacement activity to avoid catching up with my 550 unread emails
Good news: The Bookmark button still works and I added a popup note to make it clearer what it does (ie that it's a Share button)
Different news: I'm trying the Twitter button instead, this at least works and looks tidy. All the cool kids use Twitter these days anyhow (So I'm told )
Opinionated news: Much as I enjoy being in touch with people, Facebook deserves to go the way of Myspace and wither into a multi-billion white elephant if you ask me

Why does the information-technology industry choose not to make anything that's reliable? It can't even make a simple radio button that'll last. What a bunch of useless tossers! What it can make is ton after ton of bamboozling excuses, wherein the general public is required to do the industry's work -- minus compensation, of course.
Anyway ... thank you very much, Andy, for working on this problem. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, believe me!

OK here we go
"We deprecated the Share Button when we launched the Like button, because the Like button improves clickthrough rates by allowing users to connect with one click, blah blah Bol*^&%%s "
I chose Share instead of Like as it seemed less intrusive - nice of them to forget to mention that
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
If you implemented the Like button before November 7th, 2012, ...
Like buttons that were implemented prior to this update should read the following developer doc about the Like Button Migration as they may require changes to continue working.
Complicated pile of bloody %$^& just for a *&*^( button! Working on it. If I can't get it to work it will have to wait...
(I also put also some Twitter code on the page which seems to have stopped working as well.)

Thanks a bunch, Andy, for your suggestions! I'm seeing that 'Facebook' button to the left of individual gallery images, after clicking on them so they display in their full size; and I've found the main article's 'Facebook' button via the 'Bookmark' bar. The latter procedure shares the entire article, which is what I want to do.
I still can't see the 'Facebook' button in the 'Social Media' box, but the alternatives you pointed out are welcomed work-arounds! Thanks again.

I'm not seeing it either and my browser is not knowingly blocking it. (Various cookie and ad blockers will block it which makes it stop working unless you allow through the Facebook plugins)
However the Facebook 'share' button to the left of all the gallery images is working for me. Are you getting that?
I'll have a look into it. In the meantime you can click on the Bookmark (Addthis) button, you just need to find Facebook in the huge list of possible places to share:

Thank you Tim, David and Martin, for weighing in on this matter! Well, I tried Internet Explorer Version 8.0.6001.18702 but it's still 'no joy': The 'Facebook' button just isn't there -- not for me, anyway. Alas!
P.S.: I wonder if the cat can see it.
