I understood that, since there are a bunch of stones lying around on the path that they would have taken, the Tiwanakans must have boated the stones across part of Lake Titicaca. Even if they had no wood, they still managed to get the stones onto boats.
Definitely a region I'd like to revisit one day.

Enjoyed the Tiwanaku episode with one proviso - at about 26min into the prog, having mentioned on a number of occasions that wood was virtually unavailable, pics from a 2002 experiment to move stones on reed boats showed volunteers using long pieces of wood to manoeuvre stones.
Is this the unnacceptable face of experimental archaeology?
