A lecture by Fulvia Lo Schiavo, former Superintendent for Archaeological Heritage in Sardinia and Tuscany.
Human and animal figures, furniture, baskets and vessels, weapons, buildings, ships and chariots – all these were reproduced in miniature in the bronzes of the Nuragic culture of Sardinia, mostly in about the 10th–8th centuries BC.
A stunning discovery in 1974 at Monte Prama produced fragments of 40 over-life-sized stone figures, 25 of which have recently been reconstructed. They represent boxers, archers and warriors as well as models of nuraghi, the stone towered buildings after which the culture is named. The origin, date and purpose of these monuments are unknown.
In this lecture, Fulvia Lo Schiavo, shows how the dimensions and characteristics of the bronze and stone figures can be linked.
