there is some unusually hostile postings on this thread unbecoming of the usual helpful and comradely banter. i got the impression the original OP was just making a broad statement. nothing too damning in that. quote; ''This obviously implies you think Bornholm is special and has a significantly increased occurrence of megaliths in contrast to surrounding regions''. it obviously implies nothing in my book, just a broad brush stroke to say there are many megalithic structures in that area and that we may find it interesting.
regards. dean

Thanks.

Unfortunately you continue to twist my words and simply ignore the archaeological data.

Anybody familiar with Scandinavian archaeology will wonder why you single out Bornholm. As has been said the occurence of megaliths is no surprise in that area. Saying "Bornholm is full of megaliths" is a bit like stating "The wood is full of trees".
It is not worth mentioning.

As a fact-based debate about Bornholm’s megaliths seems impossible I will do you a favour and ignore this discussion.

Regards.

Tell you what for the purpose of this discussion lets ignore what I said about there being Megaliths on Bornholm (despite the ones behind Haagensen) and carry on with the rest (the majority) of what I said.

Let's pretend that the Holy Roman Church placed their own places of worship over previous places of worship.

Discussion is pointless when you do not read other posts and do not accept the facts.

Your statement was “Bornholm is full of megaliths”
This obviously implies you think Bornholm is special and has a significantly increased occurrence of megaliths in contrast to surrounding regions.
A look at the archaelogical data proofs the above statement to be misleading.
The nearby mainland and other large islands have same or superior occurence of megaliths.

Btw. what has Rudston to do with Bornholm?

So are you saying that because YOU haven't seen any megaliths on Bornholm then everything else I have said cannot be true?

Here you are anyway for what it's worth. They're there.

Then again perhaps the Church authorities placed their "Images of the Saints" over previous places of worship

They obviously couldn't totally remove the previous place of worship here it was too heavy.

A movie showing someone walking past stone circles somewhere can hardly proof anything.
It is more helpful to study archaeological data.
So even if you include the few (later) "stone circles" and bronze and iron age stone settings, there is no evidence for the thesis "Bornholm is full of megaliths".
It is quite the same as in the nearest Swedish area. And other european areas.

Unfortunaely I cannot show you the video made by Erling Haagesen and Henry Lincoln called The Secret (you saw part of it in the first video) because it has been removed from circulation (if you didn't buy it first off then you cannot get it other than second hand). I can't put it on youtube either because they instantly remove it.

I asked Henry Lincoln about this and they say that it's because some of the hypotheses made earlier in the video they no longer support. It may well be a falling out with Baigent and Leigh. Apparently Lincoln has received no royalties for The Messianic Legacy.

But in the Bornholm section of The Secret Haageson walks past many stones circles on Bornholm.

I'll try to give you some stills

"Bornholm is full of Megaliths"

That obviously is wrong.
Compared to nearby mainland-areas and islands Bornholm has no increased occurrence of megalithic sites. It is more the opposite. The official Danish database records 16 sites. That means only 1 site in 36km².

In case anyone is asking themselves why churches should be laid out in a clearly defined geometric pattern (and what this has to do with Megaliths) then look at this

Quote:
"Before all else, I denounce and contest, that you shall observe no sacrilegious pagan customs. For no cause or infirmity should you consult magicians, diviners, sorcerers or incantators, or presume to question them because any man who commits such evil will immediately lose the sacrament of baptism. Do not observe auguries or violent sneezing or pay attention to any little birds singing along the road. If you are distracted on the road or at any other work, make the sign of the cross and say your Sunday prayers with faith and devotion and nothing inimical can hurt you. No Christian should be concerned about which day he leaves home or which day he returns because God has made all days. No influence attaches to the first work of the day or the [phase of the] moon; nothing is ominous or ridiculous about the Calends of January. [Do not] make [figures of?] vetulas, little deer or iotticos or set tables at night or exchange New Years' gifts or supply superfluous drinks. No Christian believes impurity or sits in incantation, because the work is diabolic. No Christian on the feast of Saint John or the solemnity of any other saint performs solestitia [solstice rites?] or dancing or leaping or diabolical chants. No Christian should presume to invoke the name of a demon, not Neptune or Orcus or Diana or Minerva or Geniscus or believe in these inept beings in any way. No one should observe Jove's day in idleness without holy festivities not in May or any other time, not days of larvae or mice or any day but Sunday. No Christian should make or render any devotion to the gods of the trivium, where three roads meet, to the fanes or the rocks, or springs or groves or corners."

The Life of St. Eligius, 588-660
St Eligius, spiritual advisor to the Merovingian kings

Basically the Holy Roman Church placed their places of worship over previous places of worship.

Their accuracy may well not have been as precise as the previous builders

Start of the section on Bornholm watch it through to the end
