That sounds interesting, I'll investigate further. Thanks, Holger.
I see it says "You can create your offline maps from online sources, with the built-in Map Creator (See the manual section)".

I got a Sony Xperia P Android phone since some days.
Today I googled a bit about GPS programs, and found this one:
http://www.oruxmaps.com
I managed to import the Megalithic kml file in a Minute.
Shows even all the info needed.
Its international, uses a lot of different map sources.

I use the web based GPS Visualizer for converting my Garmin tracks into .kml files. I don't think it does it the other way round, so I'd probably have to get something like GPSBabel for that, I see it's a free download.

I suppose what I could do is mark a route in Google Earth and then convert the .kml file into a file importable into my Garmin GPS device, something I haven't done yet. I was really hoping that this new technology could do it simpler, and with nice imagery.

I've developed a set of techniques to transform sets of British Grid co-ordinates as a csv file into LatLong, into Decimal Degrees, into kml line plots - using the GridInQuest file converter and a couple of J Software scripts.
I've used some of these kml line data files in my hand held Garmin GPS-60 after convering them into Garmin Database format gdb using the GPSBabel program and reforming the way points into a route using the Garmin MapSource program and transfering into the device.

ToS stare they can grant permission, and obviously do for their own application. But not something they are likely the grant to other third parties without very good reason.

The Google website says you can do this with their maps but I can't find any mention of the same with satellite views.

I dont think GoogleEarth is available for the Android OS.
Please try these.
From leyhunters.co.uk Open and goto the bottom of the Archives page or onto one of the sub-pages marked ******. There for each line are three buttons to access the same Google dot kml file in three formats: Raw kml, circlular green tick button, for use if you have GoogleEarth loaded. Square green tick button get it in kmz format for use with Google Maps. Down arrow button to dounload as a zipped file.
Using the kmz format from my Android phone (HTC Wildfire S) invokes a map and overlays the data. Then there's a stack icon which brings a menu from which to choose satellite view.

As far as I know its still 'technically' against the Terms of Service to download and cache Google Map data (and Bing Maps data) for use offline.
