Thanks for all your help everyone. Incidentally the images you can see on the walls are of a distinct ochre type colour. They look black in the photo but in reality are a rusty red. I will get some better pictures soon.

Many grateful thanks for your help with the pictures and for supplying us with further links to this area of Kent.
The caves in White Horse Wood/Badgells Wood do appear to be those described as Flittermouse Hole. There is indeed cave art down there, most of it modern names carved into the chalk or written in pencil, however, there is a painting of some kind of horned mythical figure, roughly 4' high. Sadly most of this painting has been destroyed and all that remains is the right leg, left arm and the top of its head. Upon the next visit we will endeavour to take some better pictures. We will of course post further information on the caves history if it can be found.
