Saw several Sunday morning at about 2 am, here in south central Indiana. Looking to the south simply because the sky was darkest in that direction. No exceptionally bright ones, but several traveling toward the southern horizon.
Heavy cloud cover tonight.

Patchy cloud here, I can see stars in the vicinity of where the meteors should be (NW) but so far none are visible.

As usual, there's zero visibility in Northern Ireland. It's always cloudy or raining on 12th August! I saw the Perseids once, about 25 or 30 years ago. I may have forgotten to look up once or twice in the meantime, but generally speaking, we don't get to see them.

I spotted a meteor (shooting star) early Saturday morning about 12.15 am. It went down towards the south-west. Last night patchy cloud and no meteors. Might be more cloud around tonight.

I was out last night too, fortunately no cloud cover at all around here so I got really lucky.
I may not have got one so spectacular as you described and no ancient sites around here either - but I managed to see at least 9 shooting stars (and 3 so far out of the corner of my eye that I wasn't 100 % certain I did not imagine) ... and that within only a good 40 minutes and not even really far away from lights.
Might be tempted to go for a walk again this night, though at the moment some clouds seem to draw in.
Hope the clouds cleared up at your place and you get another chance this night.

Update
9pm reasonable visibility, no meteors.
10pm less viz as hazy cloud and no meteors
11pm-2am, blanket-thick cloud, not one solitary star to be seen
Hope someone else had better viz!

Heavy overcast and threatening rain here, so no-go.
I always remember the Perseids, as they fall near my mother's birthday. She would have been 90 tomorrow.
Clear weather forecast tomorrow, so maybe we'll see them then on this side.
In case no one knows, these showers and several others, are not Them hitting Us. It's the Earth passing through great clouds of dust and pebbles at the LaGrange Points in our orbit around the Sun.
We hit them 3 times a year. The Leonids are also this type of shower.

If it's as clear as last night, you'll stand a good chance of seeing quite a few.
Look to the Northwest, from the horizon to about halfway up the skies.
I was out last night 12.30 til 2am and saw one spectacular meteor, like a ball of fire with a comet's tail and quite a few in my peripheral vision, but tonight's predicted to be the best for quantity.
If anyone's lucky enough to view them - especially from an ancient site - please let us know
