I'm surprised there haven't been more pro cyclists out and about checking the route in advance - do they not bother?
Here's the official page for car parking to watch the Olympic Cycling road races (£15 a day!)

Most of the main roads round here have temporary 'no stopping' signs on them but my tip for a free place to park is a road called 'The Mount' near Hawk's Hill, Leatherhead, KT22 9EA

You can see the whole route here

This set me wondering which other ancient sites they will be passing other than Thorncroft Spring - not that they'll have time for sightseeing!

Not the most charismatic of sites but some good examples of Surrey's hidden Early Medieval and pre-history.

As a local who watched the trial race last year I thought I'd describe where I think is a good place to watch the Olympic Cycle Races. It's on the Box Hill loop but outside the paying area so you'll see the racers go round several times for free.
This is where I recommend standing, on Givon's Grove roundabout, the cyclists will come down the hill in the background and turn left, the wrong way round the roundabout and dual carriageway towards Dorking and on round to Boxhill.

After they have done their loops they turn right on the roundabout and go through Leatherhead on the way back to London.
I would advise getting there early as it was quite busy even last year on the trial event.
All the roads round there already have 'no parking' signs so somewhere you can probably park is close to Leatherhead Leisure Centre.

Then walk behind the Leisure Centre and to the left which will take you through a lovely riverside walk along the River Mole, and on down past Thorncroft Spring here

Then on along a nice wide cycle path to the roundabout - meaning it's a good safe route for cycling as well.
It's also in walking distance of Leatherhead Station. For more details see a Walker's Guide to the Rive Mole (PDF) - you'll want to head south towards Dorking

and another leaflet here

You could head back towards the river as the race is progressing for as I said, the cyclists will head up the road into Leatherhead on their way back into London.
Personally we won't be there as we're off to Derbyshire that weekend but if you're going to the cycling then have a good time.
