Reply from EH North Yorks (Neil Redfern). Sounds as though they are on the case.

"We are very aware of the concerns you set out about the central henge at Thornborough and we are in discussions with the owners about this issue and how it can be resolved.

As you know it is one of a number of complex issues at Thornborough. Please rest assured we are taking what steps we can to see the current issues addressed and long-term future of the henges secured."

FWIW I've always found ringing English Heritage to be much more effective than emailing them.

Unfortunately whilst public access is morally right, its not legally enforceable so English Heritage won't do a thing about that. However they have to care by law about damage through neglect by a landowner to a scheduled monument. So if anyone rings them, mention that!

I think Pete has a good point about waiting until after the Priddy decision has been made.

Also, EH don't have the reputation of being the most up-to-date organisation therefore, for effective communication, I'd suggest anyone who wants to protest or to draw their attention to the latest actions at the Northern Henge should put their points in writing, snailmail variety.

Put yourselves in their place, what would you give more credence to, an email from pixiemoonbeamstar@hotmail.com or a nicely presented letter from J.B. Smith at 123 High Street in a town whose name you've heard of ?

Also are there any legal eagles on the Portal? Time for legal action I reckon . . .
I also need to discover the name of the 'landowner'.
I've played with the land registry but not overly clear . . .

Come on folks let's claim our heritage back.

You can usually get a reply from EH if you CC lots of others into the email.
Local and County archaeo's, Local MP, newspapers etc etc.

EH are probably waiting for the results of the Priddy case which is due on the 26th of October.
Once sentence is passed on Mr Penny for the destruction of part of the Priddy henge EH will have a clearer idea of what they can and can't do legally to other landowners with henges on their land.
