Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the welcome

Johnny K is still about, he is usually at the local markets flogging pictures and videos.

There has been a fair bit of swailing this year so its a good time to be exploring the moor

Hi Will and welcome.

Sounds like a very good place you have there, ideally situated for stone-hunting.

Local knowledge is always welcome, if you know of any sites we don't have listed in your area or if you can add anything to the site-pages of the ones we do, it would be great to hear.

I've been using the portal for a few years now so thought it was time I actually joined.

I'm Exmoor born and bred and have been walking the moor for donkeys years. For many years I walked with the late Dr Mold on his regular organised explorations, Dr Mold was well known for his discoveries on the moor. I learnt a lot from him but acquired little of his staggering ability to re-find stones on open moor in 2' of bracken!

My family are partly descended from one of the Scotish Shepherds who came to the moor in the late 1800s and I am involved in recording and making available some of the history of their lives in a remote valley here - http://www.hoaroakcottage.orghoaroakcottage.org

Much of my time is spent on the edge of the moor managing a small charity owned bunkhouse - Exmoor Centre [Plug-ideal spot for exploring the wilds of the moor!]

So, anyway, thats me, theres more information about me on my website so, any questions?
