Hugh , 51.975941 -4.716291 looks like being close (60 m radius ) to the spot , nothing mentioned there on Coflein .The closest is a corn drying kiln at M Ganol . Even if it is not prehistoric the stone looks like a deliberate setting . A GPS or fancy phones which also them will give accuarte enough co-ordinates but It should be easy enough to find with your description and pics .

Hi George

You are right it cannot be the one in the painted image...

On the os map the is a place called Pen y Groes to the south west of it is "Mirianog Ganol" on the edge of the moor, this stone is no more than a couple of hundred yards south east of M Ganol.

I wish i could be more helpful on this ,any suggestions as to what can I do to be more accurate on future walks?

all the best

Hi Hugh,

I'm hopeless with co-ords, so can't find a map with yours on to compare to George's links.

We have a site-page for the one with the painted image, from the OS map below it, it seems to be very near to a village.

We also have several posters familiar with that area, hopefully they will be along soon, I'll be surprised if we don't have a site page for it, it looks so authentic, especially the angle of the top.

But it is nice to try and find it the hard way too

Hugh I don't think it is the same stone as the Coflein as it is too far north to get your view of Carnalw , (yes there is a similarity depite the artisitic licence ),and there isn't one recorded in the likely area . This is much closer

but whether related ??

Hi Rune,
I am very new to doing this but I have an approx set of coordinates ,

51 degrees 58'33.67north
4 degrees 42'34.22 west

Hope that helps.

These are not exact but it gives a good indication of where,I intend to improve on this as i have many images of the Preseli area to post showing a number of sites which i think could be of interest .

Hello George

Yes I believe that could be the stone ,a bit of artistic creativity going on there me thinks but its a good match..

I have more images of this stone if you need them..

All the best

Hi Landskerman and welcome!

Do you have a map reference for this stone please?

Edit - I can't find a match on Google Image Search.
Here's a link to our sites in Wales, if you click the right county, you can look through thumbnails of a lot of site locations to see if anything looks similar.

On a walk yesterday I stumbled across this stone to the north of the Preseli ridge,it is not marked on any map . To my eyes it does not look like a stone that would have been used as a gatepost as it seems to have similarities of shape with the one in the middle of the Carn Meini outcrops. Here are two photos ,one with Carn Alw in the background ,the other with Foel Drygarn. It stands around four feet high and its high axis points up the ridge towards Carn Meini.
I would appreciate any information known or speculative on this stone.
