The first photos of Leigh Down are up. Thanks must go out to Terence Meaden and the landowner for very kindly allowing us to visit at very short notice, and not forgetting Pete G who saw our planned visit and put the parties in touch with one another.
We are a bit limited in what we can say about this site at the moment but it is very interesting and more research is needed, and underway.

Yes, an excellent day out, which even the weather could not spoil. Two very different and interesting site visits with talks, many thanks to all who gave their time to us.
Many thanks for the organisation of this Andy (and how well it all came together at the last moment!).
And good to meet members and contributors of the Portal, both new and old.

Thanks Hamish
Some more links:

John Richards' page on the ongoing research into Hautville's Quoit and the surrounding landscape http://www.johnrichards.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/arch/quoit/default.html
including the newly published interim report here which he described:

Particularly interesting is the plan in section 5.3 which overlays the flood map around the Big Ground mound. This is situated just over 200 metres from the NE Circle. It seems likely that at times of high water the mound would have been surrounded by shimmering water in Neolithic times.

I had a great day yesterday, It was a bit blek but had good stimulating company, and a very welcome meal and drink at the Druids Arms. I learned a great deal from a very interesting group from the Bath and Camerton Archeological group. The story of Stanton Drew is on going and I think more surprises are on the way. Thanks for organising the day Andy.

From our southern sojourn in the morning, SolarMegalith visited Small Down Camp, a very well preserved little hillfort near Shepton Mallet

Thanks for posting the info on the Suck Stone - fascinating stuff, I'll put that on the front page. I've added the details to our article Ancient Stones around Bristol [update - also now with photos from Hamish F]

Do we have the Suck Stone at Staunton on the Portal?
It was great to meet up with you all. I'll look forward to seeing everyone's photos from the rest of the day.

Hello Steve, as far as I know we are the only people coming from the Stonehenge direction and we have a full car.
