this is true, but almost everyone would have access, it is a matter of knowing how or where, and I try to make sure that is posted; if it is Pastscape I nudge them, but we hit boundaries. Usually the local public library is my point of deposit. I am able sometimes to photocopy. The larger matter though is digitisation and getting stuff digitised is easier and easier, but deciding where to put it and who is responsible is another matter.

Those journals of course are obscure only because there isn't access, the older ones in particular are really important for they record what was found, no bones, barrows, axes sort of thing, or the record is made that there is no record, which might also be useful.

Snip included below for ease of concentration.

I.m experimenting with publishing on googledocs to see whether the cloud makes connections easier to make.

then of course, when in Essex CC libraries I don't need wifi, but it is interesting how difficulty finding wifi is, and how difficult the iPod Touch keys are to use on buses or in the sun, or even with my fingers.

There was a thing someone wanted me to comment on, but now I can't see it, so will need to go back to that screen.

part of what is being tested is my identity with higher education access means I have access to things which I don't have when in a different location, including wifi as special sort of location. Logging into shibboleth authenticated site allows that access but that is another layer of slowing down trafftc.

I'm also experimenting with making notes on the iPod Touch, and using google docs and others, now called the cloud, to make notes and compose knew know while mobile. That means that sites, the materials found, the locations, the records, and the bibliography becomes that little bit more connected.

The Vol 2 of the VCH is turning out with the range of maps and photographs, though dating from 1903 in the Essex case, to raise lots of really interesting issues.

biab

http://www.biab.ac.uk/all_content?search=Neolithic

has nearly six thousand for neolithic

adding causewayed enclosures reduces it to 44!

That can't be right either way.

This is called search.

Now done Zetoc, four thousand four hundred hits for Neolithic!

http://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk/wzgw?any=Neolithic&ti=&au=&isn=&date=&form=general&id=31180392&fs=Search

unsorted.

then I added causewayed enclosures, down to five, with a sort capacity.

There is something missing in between?

TOCS-IN needs to go into the list, I didn't realise until talking with Sue Willett that Antiquity things went in. Did a search on neolithic, and put the last year's hits onto a google doc for more work.

http://projects.chass.utoronto.ca/amphoras/tocs.html

then I don't know about too many bookmarks in one message, but the Oxford Archaeology

http://oxoniensia.org/

now has full text search and is digitised.

back to andy space... with a really slow connection in a public library, ... this was why I started the hyphen-society, back in the stone age, to map the failures which are a consequence of ascii semantics clashes.... and the hyphen seemed the smallest unit. I would have used but of course you can't see it is there unless you give it a name. Jiscmail is the home of the hyphen-society (it has to have a - ) but most unstoneage (without hyphen) wont know Jiscmail.

Back to bibliography. Now add Gorlestone... for Murray, 1875 refers to the destruction of 10ft high stones circle in 1768 .. it doesn't appear in pastscape or in antiquity, so now to try to find out more.

And that rather gets me to the next step in bibliography, which is to use tables to build time and space to which is associated place name, for example Gorlestone, and author, in this case Murray. Murray has good index, so lots to track in Murray.

Periodisation laws are very dependent on domain specifics, so mapping Stonehenge time as an anchor, now made much easier, then using string hengetime which will map onto string neolithic with an appropriate number string. This will be case within subject archaeology which has number string 93 and in the island place string Britain will be 936. By using field time we can make a join with field place and field author. The next step is to use header tag for layer.

stone hand axe achieves only 22 hits, this can't be right but I think I know what is happening. I've put up something on the stone hand axe matter already connecting with the neolithic, this is a words and things matter.

ISI web of knowledge has a search within results facility which reduces with the string england to 158. Which wont be right either.
