The Preseli bluestones with the white speckles are spotted dolerite (blue to green stone with pronounced white spots) which as far as I know are a different class of rock to Hornfels.
This link shows Preseli bluestone both raw and tumbled/polished.

I know that skiddaw opposite Castlerigg is somewhat composed of Hornfels,a metamorphic aureole.

It's not just Hornfels that rings, many Cumbrian rocks were used to make this lithophone

It appears Hornfels occurs in the Northern part of Guernsey as granitic pipes in the diorite, I don't know exactly where but it may explain the ringing ability of the destroyed passage mound "la Rocque Qui Sonne" on the Gueurnsey list.
Are there any stone circles near Skiddaw, Cumbria, see "The musical stones of Skiddaw".

A question I've been sent:
I did a search on the megalithic site for hornfels in the Uk and there were no search results found at all. I'm fascinated to know if there are any stone circles in the south of the UK made out of this ringing rock. Do you have any ideas?
