Have to say that rows of crater like depressions are more normally early tin (or other stuff) mining pits, but there were indeed decoy airfields set up and bombed - I know there was a whole representation of Bristol created up in the Mendip Hills to try and fool the German bombers, relatively out of harms way.

Thanks Martyn,
Will sort the photos asap. If I was to hazard a guess I'd say the site was Bronze age, the northern side of the double oval is damaged being peppered with crater-like depressions. An elderly chap I spoke to back at the car said he heard years ago they were a result of WWII bombing as there was a decoy airfield close by - but this is just hearsay.
cheers, Mike

I paid a visit to the Roborough Down Earthwork today, does anyone know anything about the findings from the 2005 investigation please or if it goes by another name? Google aerial view is best as the Bing one is pre 2005 and covered with gorse/bracken, photos to upload when I have more info/site page.
