Various reasons why no photos are allowed:

Protection of the site:
Not showing what's there in case robbers see it and want to steal it (I've come across this reason).
No flash photography to protect delicate artwork.

Commercial greed:
The owners of the site want to maintain copyright over all images (possibly so you buy their postcards)

Weird stuff:
You'll steal the soul of the place if you take photos (but you can buy our postcards if you like).
Please don't take photos during religious ceremonies at this sacred site because you'll disturb the other worshippers (buy our DVD instead).

Might well do as I've found some pictures of the inside of the well house elsewhere.

I don't know, Coldrum, all I can say is that Starchild - a shop in the Courtyard in Glastonbury, doesn't allow photographs of its altar either.

Whitespring's contact details are on the website, perhaps if you get in touch, they'll elaborate?

Went to visit the White spring in Glastonbury the other day. It looked very atmospheric lit up with just candles so wanted to take a photo with the flash off but got stopped by one of the guardians of the well who said no photos allowed. Me being rather a quiet person didn't ask why. I presumed it was something to do with the sacredness of the site.
Does any-one have any ideas?
