I have confirmed that Bing Maps have now fixed their 1:25000 OS map layer - very useful to have access to, thanks Bing

The 'Classic' multimap links no longer work so we're stuck with Bing Maps.
I've just noticed that the 1:25000 OS maps are no longer displaying on Bing. Apparently this is a data error rather than cost cutting of suchlike, see here

However you can still get the 1:25000 OS maps by clicking on the Streetmap icons on our site pages (second one along, olive green). Hopefully the Bing OS Maps will be fixed soon...

I've been attempting to make our links go the the 'classic' Multimap but they aren't letting me and keep redirecting to Bing.
However you can still use the old Multimap at http://classic.multimap.com/index/ , the search box there accepts 6 digit grid refs to search for locations

I have just found that the 'classic' version of Multimap is still available from this link:
http://classic.multimap.com/index/
This is more useful than Bing maps as you can search by OS grid ref and also read off grid refs of your current location from below the maps. This is very useful to locate and read off grid refs of sites for adding them to the Portal.

Bing are currently running a survey asking what you think of it compared to Multimap. If you have time, please tell them about the loss of the OS grid ref search and OS grid ref readout features. There's a prize draw too. It appears Multimap is soon going to be decomissioned

The OS still limit the number of 'map tiles' you are allowed to serve from your site. The Portal has been close to the free limit a few times but fortunately it's just sent a nag e-mail but let us carry on.
Rather worryingly the OS are being fed money from 10 Downing Street to fund the 'free' Open Data initiative, it was a pet project of Gordon Brown's - so needless to say I fear for it's future as a free service...

for the purposes of finding grid references you can use Where's The Path?
which has 50k OS mapping and google aerial view side by side and gives a 10 figure OS GB grid reference for the cursor.
This link is centred upon Stonehenge:
http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm?lat=51.17875406899017&lon=-1.8253057070162273&gz=14&oz=8>=1
But I expect that Bill Chadwick would not be appreciative of Andy B linking into it from the site pages, as it could be a traffic issue.
I have been aware of the site for a few years now, certainly in the past there was a limit to how much OS mapping could be served up each day by the site, so you would get to the evening and the OS mapping would cease to work. Now licensing of OS data has improved this may no longer be an issue.
Actually I have just had a little play and this site is absolutely brilliant now, I suggest you go and explore the various drop down boxes and buttons.

Multimap now seems to be booting me over to Bing with no opt out - is anyone else getting this? Not that Bing is bad but it doesn't have a map ref readout.

What do you get at http://www.multimap.com ?
Some people are getting redirected to the Bing maps home page with no option of going back to Multimap
