It's not reading the EXIF data anyway, would have been a good idea but -too hard for my brain-
I suspect a most photos don't have EXIF in any case as you say, the date submitted is the closest we have for a starter

Thanks Andy,

When I've got some time I will go through the full log list, as every date on there is wrong for me, simply because I use the 'Save for Web' feature in Photoshop to get the images the right size - it strips all the exif data including when the picture was taken so every entry is when the picture was uploaded, luckily I usually put the date in the photo description.

Over the summer I did some aerial photography on a few archaeological excavations of prehistoric sites. These photos I am currently going through in detail to sort the good from the rubbish. For reasons of site security these photos won't be appearing on the Megalithic Portal with site pages until after the eventual point that the sites are published.

And I've just been around northern England and southern Scotland on holiday for nearly three weeks, slowly sorting photos out, some of which have recently been uploaded to the megalithic portal - others not all in a relevant time frame will be appearing on: 'The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland' Canmore website: http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk

That's added. I've also added a display of the latest visit logs where a text comment has been added, but you don' t have any of these at the moment
http://www.megalithic.co.uk/user.php?op=userinfo&uname=h_fenton

I've also added a rundown of the latest visit logs on the 'what's new' page:

Andy would it be possible to have on "Your Own Page" my egallery comments listed? as I'm sure I recently asked a question on another users photo but cannot now seem to track it down to see if the poster answered. (and in this case I don't think the picture was deleted).

Thanks

Hamish

The sites visit log is now ready in 'beta' as they say. There are a few bits not finished such as the table sorting but it's good enough to get people using it.

It has a clever function to set up your visits log based on scanning through the photos you have uploaded to the gallery, but it doesn't know when exactly you visited, only when you uploaded the photo so that is the date it will put for the visit. You can edit the date manually if you can remember when exactly you visited.

Comments and bug reports welcome as I can still add things to it as needed

http://www.megalithic.co.uk/visits.php

You will also see little links in the right hand side bar of the site pages and gallery images

Mmm, fair points. I suppose I was thinking that you must only have one 'I would like to visit this site' entry per site. However you could still do this but also allow multiple entries in the 'I have visited' (or couldn't find / get to categories). I think multiple entries will work, we'll see how the implementation goes.

What I'm coding at the moment is a set up scan button that creates an empty visits log for you based on the photos that you have posted in our gallery. That should speed things up so you don't have to manually create every entry. I'll also make it so that you can select a gallery photo to go with each entry, but that might not be in the first version.

In the logging aspect it might also be limiting if someone has visited the same site multiple times (I know quite a few sites that I have) Summer Solstice at Stonehenge could be an example where someone visits the same site multiple times over a period of years.

I wouldn't want to impede your progress on this too much - could you make it only possible to log just a single visit to each ancient site per day - therefore getting around the problems of sticky fingers on mouse buttons.

Peter, thanks, I'm making good progress and I've just been thinking about how to display the table of visit entries. The entries will all have a unique ID number that will allow them to be sorted into the order they were entered. I wasn't going to have an explicit 'date entered', but perhaps I should in case it proves useful. They do all have a 'date visited' (or date planned to visit).

Another thing I'm pondering on is whether to allow a person to have more than one visit entry per ancient site. Just one would be better for most people I think, and would stop someone accidentally adding three by clicking three times (say) but it would be limiting if you wanted to create two tours that include the same ancient site.

Andy,
one additional feature which I notice is on a campsite site I have used....they have a quick link to allow you to pop a campsite into your own 'virtual brochure', which seems similar to the wish-list.

What I like is the ability to then view the ones you have selected either by 'date added' or by 'county'.

Viewing the ones you've put on the wish list by county (or any other permutation people think) could be handy as a quick way of finding them when you are next heading that way.

OK I'm going to have a go at members' log pages. Each log entry will need

Site ID (number) - this will be set for you

Visited Y/N (no this puts in on your 'wish list' instead) - also "seen but not visited", and "couldn't find"!

Date Visited (if Y) (date)

Comment (text box)

Your Rating (1-5 score ?)

Tour ID (number) - put a number in here to make it part of a tour you did or are planning

Order (number) - this indicates the order to visit (or display) this site

(The Tour and Order will allow you to create customised tours or routes to be displayed on the Portal)

We will also need:
Index number

possibly also
PID (number) - image PID number for you to display an image in connection with this site

Another function I can do is an option to create the blank entries in your 'visited' table by going through the photos you have submitted and seeing from that which sites you have already visited
