Lens flare is normally produced by bright light sources at the edge of a lens' vision or sources outside this vision. Wide-angle lenses are especially susceptible to this. It can also affect telephoto lenses as the picture they capture is normally low in contrast.
The reflection of flash from Paul's hand, as a bright light source, could cause lens flare, but IMO the hand is too close to the centre of the picture to do so.
The three red dots are interesting as they move to the left in picture as the camera is moved to the cameraman's right, at different speeds. However they could be dust, insects etc picked up by the videocam at differing distances.
If Paul could choose to photograph lens-flare when he "sees" it using his digital cameras, he would make a fortune. I know of professional underwater photographers who could produce this with a good chance of success using film but have great difficulty reproducing these effects on digital.

Karloff, just to reassure you, the tone of your post is completely fine. Thanks for your continued insights.

Fear not on my account. Paul has redefined science to mean someone who says "This is an orb" is a scientist whereas someone that says "Is it?" is blinkered.
Poor chap has it the wrong way round, that's all.

i am not sure you have looked at the evidence with any understanding of science. take the video below john was filmimg me about 10 feet away, whilst i was pointing my camera at a right angle to the direction he was filming. so the light from the flash was also at a right angle to the infra-red camera. the pre flash illuminated an orb which displays distance from my lens. the second brighter flash whites out the orb which has moved closer to the hand. this is quite simple to understand and easy for those who hold dogma to deny.

Hi
Sorry aout quite late respnse but I only just read this post.
Paul, as your hand is at an angle to the camera flash, light reflected off you hand towards the filmer producing a lens flare, so what exactly in terms of scientific principles is there to misunderstand?
I see nothing in your post that describes "science". What it says is you are going to ignore the simple fact that the angle of either the light source changed or the angle of the reflective surface (i.e., your hand) changed. In fact both changed as you clearly angled the camera more towards the filmer for the second flash and you moved your hand (also you were wearing a ring which also reflected the light).
I know we're not meant to be personal anymore, but I have to point this out. To simply say that other people don't have any understanding of science and then hold up this video as "scientific" is just nonsense. To then imply that disagreeing with you makes somebody a simpleton and dogmatic isn't rational discussion.

Now something else very strange has been seen in the sky over Norway, this time in conjunction with the Northern Lights.
"A strange jellyfish-shaped object spotted hanging in the sky over Norway, may have been caused by light from the aurora being bounced off a space satellite, experts say.
If proven it will be the first known case of a satellite reflecting the Northern Lights.
The mysterious phenomenon was photographed last week by amateur photographer Per-Arne Milkalsen over Andenesm, Norway.
Mr Mikalsen captured this strange phenomenon he described as a 'parachute' when taking pictures of the vivid Aurora over Andenes, Norway
snip
The photographer first assumed the odd optical effect was a spot on his camera lens. But after he posted his photographs on Spaceweather.com he was inundated with emails from interested experts from around the world."

I've had solar flare images of a similar shape by shooting into the sun with a digicam, but I don't think that explains what he's got in his shot, for a start, he wasn't shooting at a single bright light-source like the sun.
