Yes, we do have right to roam - for which some farmers prepared by putting up new fences, tightening up old ones etc [I've seen new fences running along valley streambeds, electric fences across fieldgates, multiple quad bikes churning up new footpaths etc etc]

Not sure if the right to roam legislation is an actual legislation in Scotland...after all there are different rules regarding several other laws...eg...trespass,marriage and(bizarrely)suicide to itemise a few.

Hi Nick
I was there a couple of years ago, the "new" owners were just renovating the buildings. I walked up and asked about access, they just didn't want cars in their yard, when pressed I was allowed to park near the Stones. They seemed quite approachable then, maybe something has happened since then to change them.

Update re access: the new owners (non-local) who moved in a couple of years ago have now put up signs down the road stating "No unauthorised vehicles beyond this point", which I'm not sure is strictly kosher. Certainly access on foot is still covered under the Right to Roam legislation. I'm not recommending anyone breaking the law but these clowns are going to have to learn that the days of colonialism are over - and that the people of Scotland (and elsewhere) have the right to access sites which have been visited from time immemorial. Some local action is planned on this, stay tuned.
