I wasn't sure if it was a new discovery, thanks for investigating.

I just created a site page for it called "Pömmelte Kultstätte"

http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=20007

it's right around the corner from where I live, so I will have to take a little road trip soon.

German newswires covered it extensively:

The pictures of scooped up dirt aren't that exiting!

Cheers

Can any of our German contributors work out where this is?

Stonehenge-like Monument Found in Germany

Berlin, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) A team of archeologists found a 4,250-year-old Stonehenge-like monument made of wood in east Germany, local media reported. [It's made of wood so yes it's really like Stonehenge isn't it - Gah! - MegP Ed]

The ceremonial complex from the Bronze Age is 377 feet in diameter and is in a worse state of preservation than Stonehenge, in Great Britain, according to Andre Saptzier, of the Marthin-Lutter University in Halle-Wittenberg.

The first structure has an inner concentric circle made of wooden posts that are 12 inches in diameter and an outer circle where funerary tombs were found, the archeologist told Der Spiegel.

The monument was used for religious sacrifices and cults for 250 years, according to the researchers.

This is a key finding to study the third millennium B.C., according to excavation chief Francois Bertemes.

I think it is Goseck .Bertemes was involved with the excavation of the Middle Neolithic enclosures at Goseck which has been described as a German Stonehenge .It is similar to the description but is only 75m in diameter , there are burials outside the enclosure so if that area was included the diameter would be a lot closer to the quoted 377.
