Heavens - didn't think anyone was still bashing the romantic theory that the bluestones were brought to Stonehenge by men!!
Most of the above article, especially about Stonehenge being based on Carn Menyn, is pure mythology IMO.
The glacier which swept across Wales ended a few miles from SH, where it deposited the stones. This is Aubrey Burl's view as well.
I know the following article is not new & requires some additional info, but it's informative - 7th article down by Williams-Thorpe...

I have a question about spotted dolerite or Preseli Bluestone - I have read more than once that it only occurs at Carn Menyn, which is a couple of miles from our house. The house is stone built and the surrounding hedgebanks are built of earth and huge stones. A few have been broken and are mainly spotted dolerite - can't imagine they would all have been lugged here from Carn Menyn, so does anyone know if they occur naturally in other parts of the Preseli Hills?

Thank you, interesting - seemed odd to me that these stones would have only one very localised source .....
I haven't yet been to see Waldo's stone, I understand he was a poet, bard and more but am not familiar with the story behind the stone?

Not sure I can answer the question, but I was there last tuesday, visiting the Foel Drygarn fort and Gors Fawr circle, and Figgis says (Prehistoric Preseli) of the circle stones that they are of 'spotted dolerite (bluestone-type), unspotted dolerite and undetermined rock which occur as local erratics. So maybe there was a seam of bluestone further down on the moor....
By the way is there a story to Waldo's memorial stone placed so dramatically on its outcrop of stone....
