Stoney Littleton is a place I go to for peace and quiet, though best viewed on a sunny day....
Here are some directions;- from Bath drive
(over the river by the railway station)" up the Wellsway and onto the A367 to Radstock but then just by Burnt Inn and the Fosse Way, turn left down to Wellow, and drive along an lane for three miles. It dips and curves, in and out of shadowy woods, small valleys and open country. Entering Wellow turn right and continue along the lane for about half a mile and then to the left is the sign to Stoney Littleton.
I parked at the top of the lane by the farm buildings, but you can drive all the way down the lane for about a mile and park by the Wellow Brook for the longbarrow."...

Thanks for the additional suggestions everyone! Stoney Littleton will be near the top of my list. I can't wait to get to there and take pictures and just get a feel for the area... both its past and present! Stanton Drew and South Cadbury look fascinating too. I hope I can fit them all in! And I hope the weather cooperates. I think with the clothing suggestions offered, I'll be ok, as long as it's not too windy.
As for all day veggie breakfasts in Glastonbury, my vegetarian travelling companion will be happy to hear that!

Thanks for the replies so far. I think I've worked out a plan. Leave London, drive to Stonehenge then Avebury, then on to Bath. Spend the night, drive to Glastonbury, then return to London.
Can anyone suggest "must see" sites along the way?

From Glastonbury take the A303 to London (i.e. go south from Glasto through Street and down to Somerton then onto the A303). Head east and just before Wincanton turn off the 3030 at North and South Cadbury. Go to South Cadbury park in the car park and climb up onto South Cadbury Hillfort. WOODE..............................How do.................Clothing...........Bring plenty of thin layers, teeshirts, sweaters, etc. so you can adjust to whatever the temperature is.
Also waterproof leggings as well as a coat, gloves, and solid boots.
A few hours outdoors anywhere in Britain can draw the heat out of you, especially in winter.
Still dead good though.

Hello everyone. It's been a very long while since I've visited the Megalithic Portal. I'm back because my partner suggested we visit the UK and Amsterdam on a three-week vacation this year. Of course, I want to see as many megalithic sites as possible.
I already mentioned my desire to my travelling companion, who thought if we're going out that way, we might as well go to Bath, too. We'll probably spend the night in Bath, and maybe swing a bit out of the way to Glastonbury if possible on the way back to London. I included a plan to stop at Stonehenge, and while we're there I'll do some arm twisting and see Durrington Walls, Avebury and hopefully West Kennett, too. They all seem relatively close together so I'd like to pack in as much as possible, but not feel rushed.
My question is this: can anyone suggest a list of things to see on a short excursion to the area, besides the things I mentioned? Is there a "Wiltshire Megalithic Tour Guide" somewhere?
Oh, did I mention that the we'll be in the area around December 20th? Hints on appropriate (warm!) clothing would be greatly appreciated by this redeck from sweltering southern Georgia USA.
