I found someone recommending foam and sticky tape over the inbuilt mic. I'll give it a try.

Guess so - but with an inbuilt mic will be more difficult (like mine).

What's the best way to get rid of wind noise? A fluffy mic?

I'll have a look for the software. Windows Movie Maker can not handle .mov files - but if I can extract them, I'll be sorted.
Cheers - hopefully will reflect in my contributions!

If you have XP plus SP2, Windows Movie Maker is already there on your PC.

One way is to look out on the various PC magazines that often have video editing packages on their cover discs. I don't have any up to date ones though...
Do a search for GPL video editing to see if there are any open source progs. A good one for audio only is Audacity but you didn't ask that
How about making audio commentaries of sites as well as video, as these can be loaded onto MP3 players and phones for use in the field.
The Rollrights people have done one, others could do audio tours for their 'own' local sites. You could still use a video camera and just use the audio track.

There must be some freeware that converts to .AVI, then it's easy.

To discuss practicalities of putting together longer clips and splicing etc, can anyone recommend any software for editing .mov files?
Thanks,
Tim.
