| Thanks Pete, but I already know that. I've been to the Hellfire caves several times. I think the prince regent (George IV) was involved. I just wondered why a family with such wealth and widespread estates failed to get a mentio in English history. Roy

Part oof my boyhood was spent in Norhtbrook Oxon. due to Adolph Hitler Nearby Kirlington had a mansion home to the Dashwoods. Since then I have found they had estates at High Wycombe. They must have been very wealthy. there was I beleive A Sir Francis Dashwood in the C18/19. Yet in general english history through the ages there is no mention of them. No soldiers, politicians of note. Any one know their history >? Roy
