A UNIQUE golden bead of jewellery has been declared treasure trove by an inquest in Swindon.
The ornamental bead, which could well have been worn by our ancestors during the 7th or 8th Century, was found in fields near Marlborough in March 2005, the inquest at Swindon's Gablecross Police Station heard.
The bead, pictureed above, is made of 91 per cent pure gold wire.

It was found by a metal detectorist from Swindon, who didn't want to be named. He said: "We were just covering the field, we found a few items that day, nothing very special and got a signal through the detector.
"It was just a few inches below the surface and covered in mud, but you could see the gold in there.
"I have found lots of things like this over the years, but it's a nice object to find and I suppose it's in good condition considering how old it is. Other objects like that would get badly damaged by ploughing."
