New Sites The magic of clear fresh water from deep within the earth has always been sacred to mankind. Often overlooked and neglected today, wells were essential to farm and village and those that never failed were venerated. Some had healing powers when the waters were rich in iron, calcium and other minerals. Some are so rich in limestone that they "petrify" anything suspended in the water (Mother Shipton's Cave). The oldest take us back to pre-Christian days and give us glimpses of Pagan deities.
