Bwlch ym Mhwll-le

. Cairns in Gwynedd. In the north west of Snowdonia is Bethesda, to the north east of Bethesda is a long hill with three fine cairns upon it, Moel Faban, at the north east end of this hill is a strange long straight gully Bwlch ym Mhwll-le. Up the other side from Moel Faban are these two cairns. The northern one is a large spread of stones like the three upon the hill, but the southern one is a kerb cairn, with half a cist at its center.

There are two forts, the higher northern one is very impressive, but the smaller southern fort is barely a fort at all more a hill top enclosure. But the view from either forts/enclosures is sublime, Cader Idris and the Mawddach estuary really catch your gaze.

About five stones a standing and maybe three fallen with an earth fast boulder near the middle, some stones are pointy, some are thick and blocky one is thin and wide.

Approaching from the south east heading for Bryn Cader Faner, this is the first cairn you come to, on the right hand side of the path, coflein says there is a hut circle settlement nearby on the other side of the path, but we couldn't see it.

Really close to the A494 that goes from Bala to Dollgelau, on its south side just north of Rhydymain. Hidden from view by a disused railway embankment.

From the B4405 turn left/south after going south through Abergynolwyn, follow the rough track (though it won't do your suspension any favours) through the forest until you come to the end of the track, space for a few cars to park here.
Finding the stone isn't easy amongst the rocky outcrops, look for the remains of a cairn made almost entirely from quartz.

Drive past Bron y foel isaf burial chamber and where the lane turns too rough to drive upon park and walk. Just up the path a sign points right, follow the sign, pass the ruined house, and this is where it gets tricky. The path fades in and out but if you can follow it across two little bridges then now is the time to veer left and go up hill wading through high summer grasses and the occasional quagmire.

Despite all the standing stones and ring cairns already posted upon, the hillfort that gives them their names isn't on here. It is now.
