At the plateau above Kartstein and Kakushöhle the relatively well preserved remains of an(most probably) iron aged rampart are still visible. Its purpose was the defence of the only accessible side of the plateau, whereas the other sides were protected by natural determinants, especially by the steepness of the rock.

This "section's rampart" (= Abschnittswall) had a semi-circular shape.
With the addition of wooden beams and stones the fortication was elaborated to a wall with a height of about 4 metres, additionally secured with a ditch.

Some early provisional excavations were made already in the late 19th century, followed by a first really scientific examination between 1913 and 1918.
During the 1st century AD, after the area became a part of roman province Germania Inferior (= "Lower G."), as a result of the integration of the Matrons and other local religious elements into the Roman realm of the gods, a cult complex of stone, containing various buildings, was built.

Medium-sized 15,8m long gallery grave excavated in 1979/1980 by Günther et. al. In spite of heavy damages it still contained at least 90 burials.

First reported in 1913 by the landowner who found several human bones at the location after he extracted and destroyed several large limestone slabs which constantly caused trouble when ploughing. The site was instantly preinvestigated and an excavation was recommended and scheduled.
Unfortunately the outbreak of WW1 prevented all these plans. Furthermore the landowner continued to remove the megalithic slabs.
