]]>. Among all Bj�rk� grave-fields Hemlanden ("The Homelands") is the largest one, consisting of approximately 1600 ancient monuments closely grouped on area of 650 x 400 m. There are about 1500 graves under barrows, 30 with stone circles, 50 burials with tricorn stone settings, 10 with rectangular stone setting and 5 marked with stones in the shape of ships.

Around 350 m in length, 2-3 m in height and 3-5 m in width semicircular rampart with three entrances from North, North-East and South surrounds the highest point of Birka where the Ansgar Cross, erected in 1834 in commemoration of a millennium of Ansgar's mission, stands now. No defense wall was needed on the South-West side as cliff drops there into Lake M�lar.
