This annex of the City Museum is built over the excavated remains of a Viking Long House dated to 871 AD.  The central exhibit is the Long House with its foundation walls and out buildings.  </description>

<title>Althing</title>

Althing is the original seat of the first recorded parliament in the world which commenced at the Lögrétta or Law Rock in 930 AD.  The site is located in the central Icelandic valley which is being pulled apart by the earth's tectonic plates at this point.  The largest of the crack in the land is called the Almannagjá, a deep chasm between the European and American tectonic plates.  </description>
