Standing Stone (Menhir) in Yorkshire (North)

Marked on OS maps the Long Stone on Middle Rigg, Easington High Moor is a prehistoric standing stone (Elgee, Early Man in North East Yorkshire, page 106). It stands just to the north of the pit alignment on Middle Rigg and looks to be over 10 feet tall. It probably marked an ancient tribal boundary and is still used as such today marking the boundary between the urban authorities of Redcar & Cleveland and Scarborough District.

Having two stones with the same name in close proximity to each other can sometimes cause confusion (Vote or comment on this photo)

This long distance view of the Long Stone was taken from the top of the central round barrow on Three Howes Rigg in June 2018 and gives a good idea of the setting that it is within. If you zoom in on the image, running across from left to right you will see patches of white an example of which I have indicated with a couple of arrows . This is cotton gr... Update - In the description I have described it as looking over 10ft tall , its actually only 6ft 6 inches (it just seems bigger being out there on its own)
