Flowerdown Barrows
Flowerdown Barrows submitted by JimChampion : Poppies growing in the ditch of the Flowerdown disc barrow. There were a lot of butterflies and other wildlife here. The site is surrounded by houses and thus not suitable for grazing by natural lawnmowers. Its not overgrown so EH must send someone to mow it mecanically at some point. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Barrow Cemetery plus Sarsen Stone in Hampshire

Only three round barrows remain of what was once a much larger cemetery. Two of these are bowl barrows, 20m and 8m in diameter. The third is a large well-preserved disc barrow, correctly described as the "finest disc barrow in Hampshire". It is almost 30m in diameter with two low mounds on its circular platform. [source]

There is also a sarsen stone at the site, close to the road, which was originally found nearby on Dean Down Drove. Presumably its been put here by English Heritage for safekeeping.

Access The site is managed by English Heritage and has signposted access up a few steps and through a gate from the road. It is opposite the post office at the main crossroads in Littleton village on the B3049 out of Winchester. Park nearby in one of the side roads.

Flowerdown Barrows
Flowerdown Barrows submitted by JimChampion : The relocated sarsen stone at the Flowerdown barrows site. The plaque reads: "Found in Dean Down Drove, Littleton, on Mr J Stratton's farm in 1906. Moved to this site from the Hampshire County Museum, Chilcomb, in 1984." (Vote or comment on this photo)

Flowerdown Barrows
Flowerdown Barrows submitted by JimChampion : A sarsen stone: not a common find in the middle of Hampshire! This was found locally in 1906, moved to the Hampshire Museum then moved to the Flowerdown Barrow site in 1984. Its a great stump of a stone with interesting textures and lichen. Flowerdown Barrows
Flowerdown Barrows submitted by JimChampion : A composite view of the Flowerdown disc barrow, looking west. This really is a huge well-preserved example, although its not best represented in this midday sunshine. I'll return when the sun is low in the sky to get a bit more contrast on the earthworks. The bowl barrow can just be seen beyond the disc barrow.

Flowerdown Barrows
Flowerdown Barrows submitted by JimChampion : A plan of the Flowerdown barrows, courtesy of the English Heritage sign at the site. For the pedants reading this: the written labels on the barrows are the wrong way round (the large one is in fact the disc barrow). I've no idea if the braille labels are also incorrect.
