Giant's Grave Barrow Cemetery

Barrow Cemetery in Wiltshire

Giant's Grave is the name given to the single bell barrow of the cemetery, the remaining four barrows being bowl. The cemetery is divided over two sites located on the western side of the Aldbourne valley overlooking the Four Barrows Cemetery on the ridge to the east.
The easternmost sites comprises one bell and two bowl barrows located at the end of a thin strip of woodland. The bell barrow remains 2m high and 20m wide. The two bowl barrows are discernible on the ground but only to a height of 0.5m.

The remaining two barrows are located around 100 west of the others in a field. Only one of these is extant to a height of 1.5m.

All the barrows have been subject to excavation with finds including cremations, barbed abd tanged arrow heads, bone pins and tweezers in the bell barrow, and a circular cist, bone tweezers, a wrist guard, pottery and beads being found in the bowl barrows.
