Barrow Cemetery in Hampshire

A Bronze Age barrow cemetery near Cholderton Lodge includes 12 round barrows – 8 bowl barrows, a possible disc barrow and 3 possible barrows of uncertain type.

I have been able to identify the following monuments:

1. A bowl barrow (nr 910134 on Pastscape) of 29,5 m diameter and 2,7 m of height. It is located in a small wood NW from Cholderton Lodge. Pastscape.

2. A small bowl barrow (nr 910136 on Pastscape) in northern part of the same wood. Remains of a quarry ditch are still visible. Pastscape.

3. A bowl barrow (nr 910139 on Pastscape) of 32 m diameter in SE part of the same wood. Partly mutilated, but remains of a quarry ditch are still visible. Pastscape

4. Well-preserved bowl barrow (nr 910145 on Pastscape) of about 20 m diameter located on a field SW from Cholderton Lodge. PastScape

5. A bowl barrow (nr 910129 on Pastscape) located NW from 910145, but is smaller – 1,2 m high and of 15 m diameter. Pastscape

6. Well-preserved bowl barrow (nr 910152 on Pastscape) of 2,3 m height located in trees near the road to Cholderton. Pastscape

7. Badly mutilated and overgrown barrow (910158) of undefined type near the footpath NW from Cholderton Lodge. Pastcape

8. Remains of a barrow (nr 910164 on PastScape, disc barrow ?) of 37 m diameter. PastScape

9. Another badly mutilted bowl barrow (nr 910163 on Pastscape) – this one is located south from Cholderton Road. Pastscape
