Hillfort in Derbyshire.
Ball Cross stands to the north-east of Bakewell and can be viewed from the road known locally as Handley Lane, near Ball Cross Farm. It looks across to the nearby hillforts of Fin Cop and Castle Ring.

Located on a sandstone escarpment at 259m (850ft) above sea level, the hillfort of Ball Cross is very small and encloses an area of around only 0.7 hectares (1.75 acres). It is defended by a precipitous edge on the two sides facing the valley and by horseshoe-shaped bank and ditch to the west. It was first discovered in 1821 by a London publisher whilst visiting his brother in Bakewell. The site remained untouched, however, until the 1950s, when it was excavated by Mr John Stanley with assistance from boys at Stockport Grammar School. Several trenches cut through the defences revealed that the site had undergone three phases of occupation, one prehistoric, one perhaps during the Roman period and one in the 16th century.

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) features 2 individual pages on two of the three cup and ring marked stones found within this hillfort. See: Ball Cross Carving 01 and Ball Cross Carving 02, which 'live in a protective box in Sheffield Museum". The TNA web pages also include further details of the archaeology and history of these stones.
