Strodgemoor Barrow
Strodgemoor Barrow submitted by JimChampion : Strodgemoor Barrow in silhouette (on the right) with an unusual cloud pattern above. The barrow not a particularly large one, but it does occupy a locally prominent position overlooking the surrounding mires and heathland. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Ditched bowl barrow on a sandy ridge on Vales Moor, in a prominent position overlooking Strodgemoor Bottom to the west.

The barrow mound is 21 metres in diameter and over 2 metres high. Hampshire Treasures makes a brief reference to the fact that this area of heathland to the south of the Crow road was once used as a rifle range.

Access A few paths lead south along the dry ridge from the Crow road, close to the Smugglers' Road car park. The wet heath either side is treacherously boggy in the winter, stick to the high ground where the barrow is.

The road in the background connects Burley Street and Crow - there is a Forestry Commission car park just of of sight to the left of the photo, named "Smugglers' Road" after the old trackway that climbs up to Picket Plain from here.
