Anne T visited on 16th Jul 2021 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 3 Access: 5 Yew Tree Well, Tissington: The second well of the day. We walked down The Street from Hall Well (with the cafe to our right hand side and church to our left), turning left into Narlow Street. This well is almost at the entrance to the Candle Workshop, underneath a tall, but relatively young Yew Tree. There was water in the well basin, but nothing seemed to be flowing into or out of the well, or along the drainage channel at the front of it, at the time of our visit.

Holy Well in Derbyshire. One of the famous six wells in the village of Tissington. It stands beside the main road into the village from the West. It is dressed every Ascension Day, the well dressings remaining in place for 7 days.

The well used to be called Goodwin's Well, after a tenant farmer who farmed near to the well.

The well is Grade II listed, and recorded as Historic England List ID 1335257.

Yew Tree Well
Yew Tree Well submitted by Anne T : At first sight, Yew Tree Well looks very pretty, although getting closer, it's obviously a modern structure. Historic England tell us this is probably from the 18th century. Narlow Lane runs the to the right hand side of the well, with the Candle Workshop off shot to its left hand side. Yew Tree Well
Yew Tree Well submitted by Anne T : The well basin was completely dry at the time of our visit, the only sign of having held water was the dry, green algae at the bottom of the well basin. Presumably water flowed into the well from the small pipe/hole in the limestone slabs (shown on the right hand side of the photo), into the basin, then out along the drainage channel at the front of the well. Yew Tree Well
Yew Tree Well submitted by kernunos : Very little flow when i visited in early may 2005, as evidenced by the rather stagnant water.
